Supporting Our Under 18 Match Officials This Season

As Round 1 kicks off this weekend, Cronulla Sutherland Rugby League Referees Association is proud to continue promoting an important message across our grounds:

YELLOW & BRIGHT – TREAT THEM RIGHT

Throughout the season, our Under 18 match officials will be wearing yellow socks as a clear reminder to everyone involved in the game that these young referees deserve the same support, respect and encouragement as every player who takes the field.

Refereeing is a vital part of our game, and many of our junior officials are still learning, developing and building confidence every time they step onto the field. Just like players, coaches and teams, they are growing with every match.

This initiative is about making sure our young referees are given the best possible environment to succeed.

Our Message Is Simple:

RESPECT

Respect the whistle. Respect the decision. Respect the person in the middle.

SUPPORT

Our young referees need support from clubs, coaches, parents and spectators as they continue to learn and develop.

ENCOURAGE

Positive words, patience and encouragement can make a huge difference to a young official’s confidence and enjoyment of the game.

These referees are not only helping games go ahead — they are the future of officiating in our district and in rugby league more broadly.

As the season begins, we ask everyone involved in junior rugby league to play their part in creating a safe, positive and respectful environment for our young officials.

When you see the yellow socks, remember the message:

YELLOW & BRIGHT – TREAT THEM RIGHT

Let’s all work together to ensure our referees are given the respect they deserve this season.
